FAQs

Check out our most frequently asked questions

Is Tūroa good for kids?

Absolutely. The Alpine meadow beginners area is the perfect place for kids to find their ski legs. We have full & half day kids lesson options and sledding for when small legs need a break. Our season pass holders love our season long kids programmes, with weekend and school holiday options, you’ll be amazed how fast they learn!

What should I bring with me for a day at Tūroa?

Winter conditions and weather on the mountain can change quickly. Rain or shine it's best to have waterproof outerwear, eye protection and sunscreen. If you arrive without something you need we have an extensive rentals and retail offering on the mountain.

What level am I?
  • First Timer: You’ve never been on skis or a snowboard before. You’ll be focusing on the basics, and finding your feet. A first timer's package is recommended.
  • Beginner: You can stop on skis or a snowboard and are ready to work on side-slipping or turning in the Beginner area. You’ll build confidence and skills as you aim to progress to green runs.
  • Learner: You can control your speed and turn both ways on green runs.
  • Intermediate: You’re comfortable skiing or snowboarding on green and blue runs. You’re refining your parallel turns or edge control and are eager to explore different snow conditions and terrain.
  • Advanced: You’re ready to take your skills to the next level. You confidently ski or snowboard all over the mountain, explore off-piste terrain, and are interested in refining these skills or hitting the terrain park.
Where is the lesson meeting point?

All lessons meet at the Snow School office at the base area. This is clearly marked with flags and is on the right hand side when you come up the stairs from the car park.

How many people can be in a private lesson?

Two people are included in the price, but you can add three extra people (up to five in total) per lesson for $ coming soon per person. Everyone in the group needs to be of similar ability and able to ski/ride on similar terrain.

What do I need for a private lesson?

Private lessons include 1:1 instructor for the duration of the lesson. You will need equipment (skis, boots & poles or snowboard boots) and a lift pass to take part. The price includes 2 people and you can add extra people into your private lesson from $ coming soon each, so long as they're at a similar ability level to you.

Can I do a lesson with my kids?

If you want kids and adults in the same lesson, you'll need to book a private lesson. Since kids and adults learn at different speeds and in different ways, we recommend our First Timers packages, where lessons are split by age for the best start.

What age can kids take a private lesson?

Some kids get on skis as soon as they can stand, and some people only start as adults so there's no right age to start. We take children in group lessons for skiing at 4 years old and snowboarding at 7 years old. For younger children you’ll need to book a private lesson.

When do I need a private lesson?

When you want more individual attention, or have a very specific focus. Private lessons are awesome for those who may be feeling nervous, or want to make sure the lesson moves at exactly their pace.
