- First Timer: You’ve never been on skis or a snowboard before. You’ll be focusing on the basics, and finding your feet. A First Timer Package is recommended.
- Beginner: You can stop on skis or a snowboard and are ready to work on side-slipping or turning in the Beginner area. You’ll build confidence and skills as you aim to progress to green runs.
- Learner: You can control your speed and turn both ways on green runs.
- Intermediate: You’re comfortable skiing or snowboarding on green and blue runs. You’re refining your parallel turns or edge control and are eager to explore different snow conditions and terrain.

We recommend everyone to wear helmets for skiing or snowboarding. Under 12s are required to wear helmets in lessons. There are rentals and retail options available for helmets at Tūroa. Tūroa Academy, Rippers and Mountain Explorers participants are required to wear helmets.
