FAQs

Check out our most frequently asked questions

What age can kids start skiing or snowboarding?

Some kids get on skis as soon as they can stand, and some people only start as adults so there's no right age to start. We take children in group lessons for skiing at 4 years old and snowboarding at 7 years old. For younger children, skiing is easier to manage because the legs move independently. Snowboarding requires more co-ordination, making it better suited for kids 7 and older.

Are there any special kids' programs or activities?

Yes. We offer daily kids group lessons as well as school holiday programs, multi-weekend lessons, and have specialised kid instructors on staff.

Is there child care available at Tūroa?

We do not offer childcare services, but we provide group lessons starting from 4 years old, with dedicated instructors and kids' areas, allowing parents to ski while their children enjoy their lessons. Kids under 4 can take private lessons, but we only recommend 1 hour.

Do kids need to wear helmets?

We recommend everyone wear helmets for skiing or snowboarding. Under 12s are required to wear helmets in lessons. There are rentals and retail options available for helmets at Tūroa.

What age can I take my child sightseeing?

Age 3+. As our sightseeing is on the chairlift, children below 3 are not allowed to ride without skis. For safety reasons, we do not allow children in backpacks or slings to ride the chairlift.

Can I take my child up the mountain in a pack/sling?

For safety reasons, we do not allow children in backpacks or slings to ride the chairlift. Children must be able to sit on the chair to ride.
