About Instructor Training
Turn your passion for the mountains into a rewarding career with Tūroa's Instructor Training programs. Tūroa offers ski and snowboard training with full time and part time options.
Develop the skills and connections needed to kickstart your snow sports career while taking your skiing or riding to the next level. Interns will have the opportunity to work within Snow School, and all program graduates are guaranteed an interview for the following winter season at Tūroa.

- Participants must be at an advanced level of skiing or snowboarding.
- Advice and assistance with purchasing equipment is available.

- Alternate weekends (4 weekends, 8 days).
- Level 1 Preparation programme for NZSIA/SBINZ level 1 exam.
- Option to shadow lessons with Tūroa Snow School.
- Book exams directly with NZSIA.

To enroll in either instructor training program, you should have a solid foundation in skiing or snowboarding and be able to ski or ride at an advanced level. Previous teaching experience is a not required.
If you are on the weekend prep programme, you will need to head to the NZSIA website and register yourself for the level one exam at Tūroa. If you pass the exam you will recieve the level one certification.
Yes. We actively assist graduates by allowing shadowing within Tūroa Snow School, and teaching opportunities after the level one for successful candidates. Many of our former trainees have successfully transitioned into full-time instructor roles.
Winter conditions and weather on the mountain can change quickly. Rain or shine it's best to have waterproof outerwear, eye protection and sunscreen. If you arrive without something you need we have an extensive rentals and retail offering on the mountain.
The New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance has been training and qualifying NZ Snowsports instructors since it was established in 1971. NZSIA incorporates Ski, Snowboard (SBINZ) Telemark and Adaptive divisions and is recognised internationally for producing professional and knowledgeable instructors able to teach and perform on snow at a high standard.
