At the request of NZ Police the below statement has been withheld until this time.
We now share the sad news that an off-trail slide resulted in a fatality at Tūroa Ski Area Thursday September 12th. Given the guest was visiting from overseas, there was a delay in notifying next of kin. We chose to respect the request not to comment and have just now received confirmation that we can release a statement.
We will continue to work closely with the appropriate authorities and acknowledge our sincere appreciation to St John and the Greenlea Helicopter Rescue who assisted our team yesterday. Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends.
An isolated site will remain closed to the public until 3pm on Sunday, September 15th, this area will be clearly marked so please respect this closure. As a sign of respect we have decided to suspend all operations at Tūroa for tomorrow, Saturday the 14th 2024.
